Ornate Mask
In this work, I fashioned a face from burlap and then dressed it in dense, graphic black raffia hair to create a strong contrast with the lightness of the material. I added golden ornaments, like jewels placed on the skin, adding a touch of preciousness and recalling the ancient gestures of adornment. I like to combine textile sculpture and the assembly of various materials: here, the face becomes a support for ornamentation, bearing witness to a relationship with the body in which self-expression is expressed through what we wear and what we show.
