My journey
Pierrette Gonseth-Favre was born in 1943 in Geneva. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Founex (canton of Vaud). From 1968 to 1970, she studied haute lice weaving with Claire Jobin and drawing with Arthur Jobin in Ecublens. She married Denis Gonseth in 1974. She is the mother of three children. She lives and works in Founex.
She exhibited for the first time at the Musée de l'Ancien-Evêché in Lausanne in 1971 and has since exhibited in Switzerland, France, Germany and Canada. As part of the celebrations marking the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation, she represented Switzerland in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.
A passionate artist
When speaking of Pierrette Gonseth-Favre's work, one evokes an inhabited œuvre. Inhabited by words, memories, humanity. A mouth full of hay, ligaments, living and vegetal matter, a mouth full of words held back, yearning to be released. The totems created by the artist stand like trees — understandably, since a plank forms their armature. These figures, like trees, resist — one even senses they exist for that very purpose: to resist. To stand firm in the face of adversity. It is thus a tribute woven by this people of tall, flat, veiled and turbaned figures, clothed in coarse, unflattering, uninviting fabric — yet how expressive.
