Ancestral Triptych

In these three vertical panels, I've sculpted ancestral faces in high relief directly into the burlap. Each head carries a memory for me, as if entire generations had been imprinted on the material. The triptych format creates a silent dialogue: the faces respond to each other, watch out for each other, pass on something to each other. I was inspired by medieval religious art and altarpieces, to give the whole an almost sacred presence. For me, this work is a humble monument to ancestors, to transmission and to what passes through time without ever disappearing.
