Packed Jute Bag
In this work, I worked directly on an old burlap sack, preserving its inscriptions, its dates, its original memory. I sewed onto it a multitude of small textile figures, one by one, like a population that would come to inhabit the surface. Each figure is different, made from scraps of fabric, thread and simple embroidery, but they all form a dense, living whole. I like the idea of the sack becoming a territory, almost a suspended village, where individuals coexist, respond to each other, brush up against each other. The jute fabric, which comes from my farming background, becomes a collective skin, full of modest, essential human stories.
