Sewn faces

Jute canvas

In this burlap painting, I worked by assembling fragments, as if I were sewing a memory into pieces. I cut, folded and sewed the jute to reveal simple, almost effaced faces, surrounded by embroidered signs, crosses and painted traces. The seams remain visible: they connect as much as they mark the breaks. I love this humble material, taken from agricultural sacks, which here becomes a collective skin. For me, this work speaks of silent presences, of faces that emerge and then melt into a textile territory steeped in history.
