Inhabited burlap

In this burlap work, I worked in fragments, as if sewing together skins, faces and signs. I assembled the jute, folded it, sewed it, marked it, and then integrated small modelled elements that evoke masks, noses, animal or human forms. The seams remain visible, as do the painted and embroidered traces, like discreet writing on the material. I love this repetition of shapes, which creates a rhythm, almost a silent crowd. For me, this piece speaks of collective memory, protection and transformation: a textile territory where faces appear, disappear and cohabit in the same skin.
