Fire Mask

In this mask, I shaped the burlap into a simple, almost archaic face, revealing its folds, irregularities and roughness. Around the eyes, I added a crown of red and black feathers, like a surge of energy placed on this humble material. The golden pearls punctuate the eyes, giving them an intense, almost hypnotic presence. I love the contrast between jute, linked to my agricultural origins, and the flamboyant ornamentation of feathers: a face at once raw and adorned, between protection, ritual and transformation.
