Entanglements of Intimacy

In this burlap painting, I assemble pieces of sewn sacks whose folds and openings allow arms and hands from shop-window mannequins to appear. These body fragments seem to surge from the matter, crossing, brushing against each other or disappearing again into the fabric. The encounter between the rough texture of the jute and the smooth, delicate surface of the arms creates an almost sensual tension. The gestures of the hands, the positions of the arms and the folds of the fabric evoke movements of the body, like a human presence hidden beneath the matter. In this composition, the fabric becomes almost a skin that at once reveals and conceals the forms of the body.
