Sewn Memory
In this burlap painting, I create a surface of sewn and embroidered fragments that combine signs, numbers and symbols. The letters, red and black crosses and hand-sewn motifs create a kind of visual writing, like a language made of threads and material. In places, faces emerge from the canvas, shaped into the relief of the fabric. These human figures seem to inhabit the composition like silent witnesses. In this artistic textile composition, I seek to create a dialogue between signs, numbers and faces to create a work that evokes memory, the passage of time and the human presence inscribed in the material.
