Fragments of Humanity

In this work, I compose a kind of symbolic territory from fragments of burlap sewn together. On this surface appear dolls, faces, small wooden objects, buttons and pieces of fabric. The inscriptions printed on the old sacks, the visible seams and the traces of wear create a cartography of signs, almost like an ancient language. The small figures sewn into the matter evoke for me spiritual presences, close to ancient idols or ritual dolls found in certain cultures, between Mayan traditions and protective voodoo objects. The wooden elements recall tools or talismans, while the buttons become like eyes or markers. In assembling these fragments, I seek to create a space where memory, belief and humanity meet, like a quiet altar dedicated to the invisible forces that accompany life.
