Ancestral Couple

In this work, I modeled burlap as a living, almost carnal material. I smeared it, worked it, marked it with gestures to bring out these upright, simple, frontal bodies. The faces appear without superfluous detail, like ancient traces, and the torsos bear the imprints of time, folds and scars of material. Jute links me to my agricultural origins, to potato sacks, to what envelops and protects. Here, it becomes skin, memory, presence. These figures stand silently between fragility and solidity, like immobile witnesses to an essential humanity.
