Colorful Totems

In these totems, I worked with jute canvas, a material that takes me back to my agricultural origins, to potato sacks, to what carries and contains. I painted them in deep, earthy colors, sometimes bright, like traces of passage. The silhouettes are slender, almost human, topped by simple faces and wires that escape like roots or branches. I like to think of them as standing presences, silent guardians, connected to earth and sky, each different but forming a group, a motionless, vibrant community.
