Scarlet Forest

In this sculpture, I've erected my rolled Japanese paper bamboos, tightly packed together like a dense forest. Each stem is different, marked with black and white motifs, and I've hung tiny red figures on them, almost clinging, as if looking for their place. I like the contrast between the rigid verticality of the bamboos and these tiny, fragile bodies in motion. For me, it's an image of the crowd, of the collective effort, of the human being trying to rise, to hold on, in the midst of a structure that's beyond him.
