Bamboo feathers

In this sculpture, I've worked my Japanese paper bamboos into a slender, almost vibrant form. As I watch them tighten and unfurl, they remind me of bird feathers, light yet powerful, ready to quiver. The deep blues accentuate this airy impression, like feathers pierced by light. I like this ambiguity between plant and animal, between rootedness and flight, as if matter itself hesitated between staying and rising.
