Mask with Azure Flowers

In this work, I've mixed collage of cut-up and superimposed 19thᵉ century papers with fine pen-and-ink drawings. The antique motifs construct a kind of mask, an almost secret structure, from which facial features sketched in ink gradually emerge. I love this dialogue between the history of paper and the lightness of drawing. All around, I've created a crown of vibrant, almost ethereal blue flowers, giving the whole a botanical presence. The ribbon at the bottom of the face evokes for me an elegant silhouette, as if from an ancient costume or a Baroque dream. Everything seems suspended, like a plant spirit gently revealing itself in the silence of the paper.
