Faces in variations

Collage & paper

I composed this work as a series, repeating the same face through paper collages and black pen drawing. Each image is inscribed in an ornamental square, different each time, like a jewel box or symbolic frame. The black line is precise, strong, almost obsessive: it draws the face, emphasizes the gaze, hollows out the contours. By varying backgrounds, motifs and details, I transform this single face into multiple presences. One looks straight on, another turns away, yet another almost disappears into the background. For me, this work speaks of identity as repetition and transformation: the same face, crossed by different frames, by memory, time and the material of paper.
