Embroidered Garden

I superimposed lace on a painting combining drawing, oil paint and oil pencil. In the background, only the shape of the cross is collaged: it structures the composition and serves as an anchor point. Around and over it, lace unfurls like an ornamental veil, floral and delicate. Behind this weave appear painted faces and forms, partially concealed, as if buried beneath layers of material and time. The lace filters, protects and transforms the image. In this work, I play with the superimposition of planes: symbol, body and décor blend together, until the painting becomes an intimate space, at once hidden and revealed.
