Hedgehog Bag

Bags & Necklaces

In this bag, I wanted to conjure up an almost animal-like form, protective and alive. I worked the textile material into repeated volumes, stitched and stretched like scales or quills, until the bag became a presence in its own right. The red and brown hues take me back to the earth, to what I know of my agricultural origins, to the raw energy that nourishes and defends. I see it as a bag-shell: it protects what it contains, while asserting an outward, assumed, almost savage strength.
